Description
English: The Humber sloop 'Harry'

A painting showing the sloop ‘Harry’ on the Humber. The vessel, captained by T. Walker, came from Barton on the Humber, and is shown sailing close to the shore. She is towing a small ship’s boat. The name of the ship can be seen on the flag flying on the mast.

The artist came from Goole and painted a number of similar primitive works of local shipping, also known as pierhead painting. The painting is signed and inscribed ‘The ‘Harry’ of Barton: Captain T. Walker’.
