Transcript InfoField | English: On front of document on right: “Elba 11mo 15th 1825 Respected Friend I have sorrowful news to announce to thee, on which I want thy assistance – I arrived at N Port on 2d day morning, and found these other goods had arrived at N.P. except the tea and nails, which had gone to Buffalo or some other place – The Tea has come to hand but nails no account of - One head of the Molasses Hd. had burst out and all wasted but 3 or 4 Gals. – This was done as they were letting it out of the Store House, or after it was on the ground – They had to let it down perhaps from 6 to 10 inches which was done very carefully, they say. Buckly says from the appearance the head had never been put in the crozen being rather small had been made tight by flags – The teamster says as the [head?] was within the crozen he thinks it must have had a jam some time – Buckly told some that he was willing to do what was right about it, but thought it hard for him to lose it I also understood that he said he would lose half of it, but who heard him I have not learned, he has since said if he has to lose that he will lose as much more with it I believe he means to prove that there was a defect in the H hd, by which to clear himself – I want some directions as soon as possible or thy attention to it – which appears necessary – It is going to be a damage to me to do without Molasses If thee had an opportunity of Sending 2 bbls or even one to me – Also a keg of 8d nails " On back of document on left: "if those others dont come soon, people complain very much that I dont keep nails on hand – If a good opportunity present I should like to have a small keg of rice, and perhaps 20 lbs Pearlash, 1 Chest of H. Shin Tea, my trunk of tea is left somewhere along the Canal, together with some other things – I think Captains of Boats ought to be liable to damages for such neglects, I believe I had better have about ½ Chest of Young H. Tea, and fill it up other articles – 1 dz [ P—buck muttins?], 4 or 5 yards of green crape 2 dz tumblers ½ dz Norfolk Laches, 2 Packs Pins, 1 Dz gimblets, 1/2 dz Bafes pins, 2 yds lightest crilled velvet 1 piece of Plaid [stuff?] most fashionable for Cloaks, 2 oz Blk twist 1 oz drab Sewing Slk ¼ lb Blk 1 [ ---ce?] Cinnamon culd Slk Brade, -- If Levi has not been to Rochester yet, and still expects to come, he would likely fetch them there where I could get them – If he should come I should like to have 3 or 4 or ½ dz.
