Autograph of Nathaniel Clark Gilman at head of the title page. "Fra: Layton ex dono Tho: Layton" inscribed above imprint. BPL embossed stamp on title page and first page of main body text. Pen trials throughout. Early manuscript annotations within index. Upper portion of 2R6 excised and replaced with a blank slip. Purchased from the auction of Caleb Cushing's library in October, 1879.
