Summary[edit]

Description
English: Power partially determines the fate of cells within a developing fruiting body, such that more powerful cells are more likely to become spores while less powerful cells are forced to become stalk cells. Cells experimentally weakened with acid or starvation are more likely to become stalk cells. Another key driver of power differences is the timing of the cell cycle – cells late in the cycle are larger and have more resources than cells that have recently divided, and thus tend to differentiate into spores upon entering the social cycle.
