Description
English: A plate engraved for the Macklin Bible after a specially-commissioned painting by Philippe Jacques De Loutherbourg. Photograph from the Bowyer Bible, Bolton, England. Bowyer Bible 06.0964. The Destruction of Pharo's Host. Moses and a group of Israelites standing on a rock against a tempestuous sky, Moses holding a staff in the air to bring the sea back together so that the Egyptians cannot follow (Exodus 14:26-28). 1793. Inscriptions: Lettered below image with title, bible reference, production detail: "P. J. De Loutherbourg R.A. Pinxt.", "Fitler Sculpt." and publication line: "London Published Decr. 1793, by Thos. Macklin, Poet's Gallery, Fleet Street". Print made by James Fittler. Dimensions: Height: 472 millimetres; width: 390 millimetres.
