Description
English: Pigeons in the Los Angeles River on a pigeon ranch, ca.1900
  • Photograph of hundreds of pigeons bathing in the Los Angeles River at the Los Angeles Pigeon Farm — near Glassell Park in the western Cypress Park district of Los Angeles, just past the Riverside bridge at the junction of Verdugo Road and San Fernando Road, ca.1900.
  • Native shrubs and bushes along the shore. The Verdugo Mountains are visible in the distance. Beyond (at right) a few buildings are visible.
  • 20,000 pigeons are daily fed 1,500 pounds of grain under the care of a superintendant and three helpers who also dress 300 to 500 squabs each day for market, at the Los Angeles Pigeon Farm.
