Türkçe: Pennsylvania’da bir Hristiyan, Pazar günü çalışmayı zorunlu kılarak işten çıkarılmasına neden olan USPS adlı posta servisine yasal işlem başlattı. Lancester County’de kilise ibadetine katılamadığı ve dini inancını yerine getiremediği gerekçesiyle Gerald Groff adlı posta taşıyıcısı bu ayın başlarında din ve inanç özgürlüğünü savunan hukuk şirketlerinden, Bağımsız Hukuk Merkezi’nde dava açtı. Başlangıçta Groff’un inancına saygı duyan ve Pazar günleri çalışmasını istemeyen şirket, Pazar uygulaması başlattı ve Groff disiplinsizlik suçu iddiasıyla işinden atıldı. Groff’u temsil eden avukatlardan biri olan David Crossett, ‘‘Özgür ve inançlara saygılı bir toplumda farklılıkları cezalandırmak yerine, bu farklılıklar tanınmalıdır. Postanenin, Pazar günleri çalışanın dini hakkını ihlal etmeden iş yapabilmesinin birçok alternatifi var’’ dedi. Bağımsız Hukuk Merkezi’nin Baş Danışmanı Randoll Wenger, ‘‘Özgür bir toplumda hükümet, işverenlerin çalışanlarının haklarına saygı duymasını sağlamalıdır’’ dedi. Avukat Jeremy Samek, ‘‘Sonuç olarak Groff işini geri istiyor. Bu onun için önemli ama aynı zamanda hükümet ve postanede çalışan birçok kişi için de istihdamlarına devam edebilmeleri ve dini inançlarını yerine getirebilmeleri için önemli’’ açıklamasında bulundu. |
