English: Pawnshop, Lauriston Place Once a relatively common sight, now a rarity, the three golden balls of the pawnbroker are a variant of the coins on the Medici family crest that the Lombard bankers and moneylenders introduced to London. A popular belief was that the balls symbolised odds of two to one that an article would be redeemed. |
