Nederlands: Vandaag maken we de weg vrij voor internationale scheepvaart en handel. Dat past bij Nederland. Zo zijn we groot geworden. Met Maasvlakte 2 zet Nederland de deur wijd open voor de nieuwste generatie containerschepen. En bieden we ruimte aan de modernste terminals. De haven wordt 20 procent groter, de containercapaciteit verdubbelt. Er komen direct en indirect duizenden banen bij.' Met deze woorden opent Melanie Schultz van Haegen, minister van Infrastructuur en Milieu, vandaag Maasvlakte 2 voor de scheepvaart. 'We zijn er met zijn allen in geslaagd deze eerste fase van Maasvlakte 2 conform de planning en ruim binnen budget aan te leggen. Het project valt circa € 150 miljoen voordeliger uit dan was geraamd. Dit blijkt nu de aanleg grotendeels gereed is', aldus Hans Smits, president-directeur van het Havenbedrijf Rotterdam. Een vloot van zo’n 25 schepen, variërend van klassieke driemasters tot een modern containerschip, vaart vandaag officieel als eerste via het Yangtzekanaal naar Maasvlakte 2. |
