English: A schematic of an open internal combustion engine cooling system for ships with thermal energy recovery. Thermal energy recovery allows to increase the efficiency of the ship by 60-80%.
  • 1. Valve
  • 2. Filter

  • 4. IC engine
  • 5. Clutch
  • 6. Outlet pipe (works as water seal)
  • 7. Stirling engine, absorbs cold/heat from seawater/exhaust fumes respectively.
Note: As visible in the drawing, coolant water and exhaust fumes are mixed.
