English: The oldest known recording of the Adhan. It was recorded in Mecca in 1885 by Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje using the newly invented wax cylinder. The source, CNN, does not say this is the oldest recording of the Adhan, nor does it name a recording date; the year 1885 is very unlikely, since – according to reliable sources – Snouck Hurgronje started experimenting with sound recordings around 1897 and he never recorded sounds in Mecca himself. In other words, the uploader seems to have jumped to unjust conclusions, though the recording is most likely one of those commissioned by Snouck Hurgronje in the late 19th century.)
