Summary[edit]
DescriptionNewtonianvseinsteinianorbits.gif |
English: Differences in Newtonian and Einsteinian orbits. (This is only a crude schematic, showing that the Einsteinian orbit would precess while the ideal Newtonian orbit would not. In fact, the Einsteinian precession would not be synchronized with the orbital revolution as shown here, and the precession for real objects is extremely slow. For the classic case, the planet Mercury, Newtonian physics already predicts most of the orbit's precession as a result of Mercury's interaction with the other planets; the Einsteinian effect is only a small perturbation of this precession.)
