Deutsch: Neurußland (russ. Noworosissky krai), Bezeichnung des Teils von Südrußland, welcher zwischen Kleinrußland und dem Schwarzen und Aswoschen Meer liegt, im W. an den Dnjestr, im O. an das Land der Donischen Kosaken grenzt, somit die Gouvernements Jekaterinoslaw, Cherson und Taurien umfaßt. Die offiziell jetzt nicht mehr bestehende Benennung N. entstand im vorigen Jahrhundert. Die Kaiserin Elisabeth, welche sich viel um die Kolonisation der ungeheuern STeppen bemühte, begünstigte die Einwanderung der österreichischen Serben, denen sich später auch Moldauer, Walachen, türkischen Serben, Ungarn, Polen, Zigeuner, Armenier u. a. anreihten. Die den Kolonisten angewisenen Ländereien wurden 1752 in zwei Distrikte geteilt: Neuserbien und Slawjänoserbien. Aus diesen Landstrichen, mit Zugabe eines Teils der Ukraine, bildete Katharina II. 1764 das "neurussische Gouvernement", das die jetzigen Gouvernements Jekaterinoslaw und Cherson umfaßte. Nach der Einverleibung der Krim und der Grenzumgestaltung der Gouvernements dehnte sich der Name N. allmählich auf den ganzen oben bezeichneten Landstrich aus.
English: New Russia (Russian: Novorosissky krai), name of the part of Southern Russia which lies between Little Russia and the Black and Azov Seas, bordering on the Dniester to the west and on the land of the Don Cossacks to the east, thus comprising the governorates of Ekaterinoslav, Kherson and Tauria. The name N., which officially no longer exists, originated in the last century. Empress Elisabeth, who made great efforts to colonise the vast steppes, favoured the immigration of Austrian Serbs, who were later joined by Moldovans, Wallachians, Turkish Serbs, Hungarians, Poles, Gypsies, Armenians and others. The lands assigned to the colonists were divided into two districts in 1752: Neuserbia and Slavjänoserbia. From these lands, with the addition of a part of the Ukraine, Catherine II formed the "New Russian Governorate" in 1764, which included the present governorates of Ekaterinoslav and Kherson. After the annexation of the Crimea and the border reorganisation of the governorates, the name N. gradually extended to the whole of the above-mentioned area. (Translated version from German) |
