English: "The tax registration records in pictographic writing peoples taxes paid to Mexico-Tenochtitlan, the center of the triple alliance of Mexico, Texcoco and Tacuba at the time of the conquest of Mexico by the Spanish. Tuition was probably copied or made from an original prehispanic around 1522-1530 by order of the conquistador Hernán Cortés, who wanted to learn more about the economic organization of the empire of the alliance. Each page of the registration is one of the 16 provinces tax. The main town of each province appears first on the lower left of the page, followed up by the people or altepetl within the church. Each altepetl is represented by a toponymic glyph. When the left margin is complete, followed by the right margin, and finally the upper row. Within this framework toponymic glyphs, items paid region are represented visually, in rows, and the expected amount of each item is recorded using the arithmetic system Nahuatl. With these several hundred detailed toponymic glyphs and tax registration, the registration tax is a valuable document for the study of the political and economic geography of Mesoamerica in the pre-conquest, the place names in Nahuatl, the number system Nahuatl and economic wealth of the empire."
