Summary[edit]

Description
English: Maryam Namazie (operating the camera) interviews Aliaa Magda Elmahdy (on the left) and Amina Tyler (on the right) on 8 March 2014 in a Paris appartment, ahead of a public nude protest near the Louvre Pyramid in favour of women's rights around the Arab world on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Both Aliaa (from Egypt) and Amina (from Tunisia) had previously posted nude photographs of themselves online as a protest against the oppression of women in Arab societies, where their bodies are generally regarded (especially by Islamists) as the property of others, who determine how she should behave in everyday life. If a woman does not follow other people's rules, she can be reviled, attacked and killed. According to Aliaa and Amina, showing their entire body whenever and however they want is 'the best way to say 'no' to all of that'. This way, they wanted to show the world how women are treated, and how social attitudes should change. They use their public nudity for a political message, not for sexual or pornographic reasons. Their actions caused widespread international controversy.

In this interview, they explain why, respond to various criticisms, and why they are going to do it again at the Louvre soon after the interview is over. The interview is spoken in English and includes Persian subtitles. It was broadcasted on May 14, 2014 in Maryam Namazie's first Bread and Roses program [1]
