Français : Thème souvent traité par Boilly, sous les titres Les heureux époux, Le bonheur du ménage et Neuvième mois, l'oeuvre est intitulée La Tendresse conjugale dans le premier catalogue qui la mentionne, celui de la vente Pillot de 1819, où le tableau est décrit ainsi : "Intérieur d’un appartement. On y voit une femme enceinte assise auprès de son mari qui a un bras passé sur son épaule; ils semblent l’un et l’autre jouir des premiers signes de l’existence de leur enfant. Un chien, une table couverte de différens (sic) accessoires ajoutent à l’intérêt de cette composition qui est du meilleur temps du maître".
