Português: "Em 1899, o então ministro da Justiça, Epitácio Pessoa, incumbiu o jornalista e professor de Direito Clóvis Beviláqua para redigir o anteprojeto do Código Civil brasileiro. A redação da obra foi concluída em outubro de 1900 e encaminhada ao Congresso Nacional. Rui Barbosa presidiu a comissão do Senado encarregada de estudá-lo. Seu parecer foi entregue em abril de 1902, com muitas críticas quanto à vernaculidade do trabalho. Esta obra, com 560 páginas, foi publicada pela Imprensa Nacional sob o título: 'Parecer do Senador Ruy Barbosa sobre a Redação do Projeto do Código Civil'. Ali o baiano questionava a filologia do texto qualificando o projeto de 'obra tosca, indigesta, aleijada.' No mesmo ano, o médico e renomado filólogo baiano Ernesto Carneiro Ribeiro, professor de Castro Alves e do próprio Rui, foi convidado a realizar a revisão gramatical do Projeto. Em outubro de 1902, seu trabalho, 'Ligeiras Observações sobre as Emendas do Dr. Ruy Barbosa ao Projeto do Código Civil', foi publicado no Diário do Congresso." - Debates, 2012.
