Roswell 029631- H.E. Durand Y. Herron, Fav. Rept by E. J. Hilton, S. A. F. D. 26773. [note in margin] JJB DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR GENERAL LAND OFFICE Santa Fe, New Mexico, April 23, 1921 [stamp] APPROVED APR 26, 1921 [signature] John Murphy Chief of Field Division [note] FS The Commissioner, General Land Office Washington, D.C. Sir: November 27, 1914, Durand Y. Herron filed Roswell H.E. 029631 for the SW¼ Sec. 30, T. 13 S., R. 25 E., N.M.P.M., which was allowed December 19, 1914, under Section 2289, R.S. August 1, 1918, entryman notified the local Land Office that he had entered the military service. April 6, 1920, final proof was submitted in connection with the above entry but final certificate was withheld on formal protest filed by the Chief of Field Division. March 9, 1921, in accordance with instructions received from the Chief of Field Division, I examined the above described lands and investigated the matter of entryman’s compliance with the homestead laws, and now have the honor to submit the following report: IMPROVEMENTS: A frame house 10 x 12 feet, with shingle roof and board floor. This house was habitable. Also a yard fence, and 1 ½ miles of 3-wire fence, enclosing the tract with lands belonging to claimant’s father. An estimated value of the improvements is $400.00. CULTIVATION: The lands embraced in this entry consist of level prairie, and are all arable. The soil is a good sandy loam, which supports a light growth of native forage grass. This tract is chiefly valuable for grazing purposes. It is not susceptible to economic cultivation, for the reason that there is no water available for irrigation and the precipitation in this region is too light to insure success with dry farm crops in a sufficient number of years over a given period to make a practice of agriculture profitable. The average annual precipitation in [stamp] F-S MAY 4 1921 [circular stamp] RECEIVED MAY 2 1921 G.L.O. [stamp] CONFIDENTIAL NOT FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION
