Description |
Pris 1.650 Kr.Porcelain tureen in form of Budai, decorated with overglaze enamels and gilding. Qing dynasty, c.1730-50. This is a rare novelty vessel that must have been specially ordered. In the form of a soup or vegetable tureen, it takes the form of the Buddha of Contentment grasping his cloth sack. The Buddha has a sprig of typical export-style flowers on his belly, which in China would have been left bare. People loved to touch and rub the fat stomach of statues, as it was believed to bring good fortune. |
