Description

Taken during the tour and editathon at the Judges' Lodgings, Lancaster.

Rawlinson display cabinet 1772

The highly decorated cabinet featuring carving marquetry and gilding was commisssioned by the Quaker, Mary Hutton Rawlinson widow of Thomas Hutton Rawlinson, the ironmaster and West Indies merchant who traded from Lancaster. Thomas was a slave trader.

It was executed by Thomas and John Dowbiggin, Thomas was the father of Francis Dowbiggin.

Its significance is that it documented in the Gillow's Estimate Books in great detail.
