Chronology provided by Seattle Golf Club:

  • Prior to 1900 – golf in Seattle was a tent clubhouse with only 5 holes at Gasworks Park (not SGC incorporated)
  • August 8, 1900 – Certificate of Incorporation of Seattle Golf Club
  • September 5, 1900 – approval by Board to lease Laurelhurst property for 10 years (eventually purchased the land but we don’t know when)
  • September 6, 1901 – first 6 holes (eventually got it to 9 holes) 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 opened at Laurelhurst facility (these would have been the closest holes to the clubhouse, so that photo could have taken place any time after 1901).
  • March 21, 1907 – approved sale of Laurelhurst property, agreed to lease Laurelhurst property while building the current SGC location
  • April 4, 1907 – current property purchased and design phase began with golf course and clubhouse architects
  • June 30, 1908 – lease with Laurelhurst ends
  • June 12, 1909 – assumed official beginning of golf at current SGC location
