| Description |
Nederlands: De Britse tanker British Lantern is gestrand op de zandplaat van Everinge in de Westerschelde. Na een eerste mislukte poging om met 16 sleepboten de tanker vlot te trekken, wordt een deel van de lading olie, wegens een kans op breken van de tanker, overgepompt in lichters. Daarbij wordt de Belgische lichter Odila door een explosie lek geslagen en het schip wordt aan de grond gezet, waarbij een grote hoeveelheid olie in het water terecht komt. Bij een volgend hoog water lukt het de tanker los te trekken.
English: The British tanker British Lantern is stranded on a sandbar in the Westerschelde Ever Built. After a failed attempt to set the tanker afloat with 16 tugboats, a part of the oil load is pumped over into barges. After an explosion, the ship is grounded and a large amount of oil spills into the Scheldt. The next high tide manages to release the tanker. |
