Deutsch: Die erste Sitzung des Kuratoriums der frisch gegründeten Hamburgischen Wissenschaftlichen Stiftung am 16. April 1907 im Phönixsaal des Hamburger Rathauses. Senator Werner von Melle, auf dessen Engagement die Stiftung zurückzuführen ist, und Kaufmann Edmund Siemers, der noch im Juli des Gründungsjahres das Gebäude für das Allgemeine Vorlesungswesen an der später nach ihm benannten Allee am Dammtor stiftete.

Notes Das Gemälde im Sitzungszimmer der Hamburgischen Wissenschaftlichen Stiftung auf der Ostseite des Vorlesungsgebäudes, wurde im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört. Der Kupferstich „Der Senat von Hamburg, 1897“ von Hugo Vogel befindet sich seit 2007 in der neuen Geschäftsstelle der Stiftung auf der Westseite des Gebäudes als Schenkung des langjährigen Vorsitzenden der Justus Brinckmann Gesellschaft, Peter Voss-Andreae.
