Scène de genre représentant une mère préparant devant sa roulotte ses deux jeunes filles pour le spectacle de cirque de la fête de Saint-Cloud.

Tout au long des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles, à l’occasion du pèlerinage de saint Cloud, de somptueuses fêtes étaient données dans le parc de Saint-Cloud. Chaque mois de septembre, l’une des plus anciennes fêtes foraines de France rassemblait Parisiens, marchands, forains et comédiens.
