Benämning: Fartygsporträtt

Historik: Siden-/silkestavlorna, s.k. Silk Pictures är utformad som klassiska fartygsporträtt, men tillverkad i siden. Museet har flera av Thomas Willes verk, samtliga sydda mot en ljusblå sidenbakgrund, kustkontur till vänster och en lotskutter till höger. Lotskuttern med en siffra broderad i seglet, kan antas vara Willes egen numrering av tavlorna. Willes bodde och var verksam i New York under 1870- och 1880-talen och hos honom kunde kaptener beställa ett porträtt av sitt fartyg. Skrov och rigg är broderade, därefter syddes samtliga segel på, tillverkade av papper överdraget med silke. Namnsignaler, nationsflagga och rederivimpel är därefter omsorgsfullt broderade direkt på duken. Kaptens namn är alltid broderat tillsammans med fartygets och hemortens på dessa tavlor. Willes levererade sina silk pictures inramade och glasade, ramtillverkning var en annan av hans specialiteter. Ofta hade de en inre guldram och en yttre av polerat trä.
