English: The author of this engraving was asked by colonial administrator to illustrate his memoirs on the conquest of Dahomey in 1892. Here, the engraving is supposed to represent the encampment of the troops in Abomey and the spoils of war, as well as the local population looking at the war booty the French captured during this military campaign. |
