English: pLL nerve regeneration is temporarily impaired after copper-induced
neuromast ablation. Representative time-lapse movie of a double transgenic neuroD::GFP and brn3c::GFP larva imaged every 20 minutes from 78 to 96 hpf. Larvae were treated at 72 hpf with 50 μM copper sulfate, which kills most neuromast cells, and the pLL was axotomized. pLL axon growth was aberrant for the first few hours of regeneration, but fibers eventually reached the correct path along the myoseptum. Note that proper directionality of nerve growth was restored at the same time that neuromast hair cells began to appear by regeneration. 20X objective; each frame is a projection of a confocal image stack. |
