Summary[edit]

Description
English: Schizont rupture and erythrocyte invasion by P. falciparum merozoites. P. falciparum late stage schizonts were labeled with Fluo-4AM and added to erythrocytes to allow re-invasion. Both DIC and fluorescence images were acquired simultaneously on a Zeiss LSM510 confocal microscope at 2 second intervals with a 63×, 1.4 NA lens, using 488 nm excitation at low power to minimize bleaching and cell damage. DIC images are shown.
