Die „Kölsche Funkerut-wieß vun 1823 e. V.“ sind das älteste Kölner Traditionskorps. Sie fühlen sich als die Nachfahren der Stadtsoldaten und sind seit 1823 wesentlicher Bestandteil des organisierten Karnevals in Köln. Der Film begleitet die Funken in und außerhalb der Session, fragt nach Vereinsstruktur, Aufnahmeritualen und Veranstaltungslogistik, fragt aber auch nach dem Selbstverständnis der weit über 400 Mitglieder, dem „Leben nach Aschermittwoch“ und der „Kölschen Siel“.
