Description
English: Deck view on the 'Borodino' (1911)

The work of the Junior Army and Navy Stores Ltd on the Admiralty storeship 'Borodino' (1911) MFA No 6; a deck view looking aft.

The short sea passenger/cargo vessel 'Borodino' (1911) was hired by the Admiralty as a storeship for the Grand Fleet between December 1914 and February 1919. She acted as a floating shop and recreational facility for the crews of warships at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands. The management of the storeship was contracted to the Junior Army and Navy Stores Ltd, York House, 15 Regent Street, London. The ship was fitted with a grocery shop and refrigerating rooms for the storage of perishables, also a laundry, hairdressing saloon, and billiard room.

This photograph was taken soon after the 'Borodino' had docked in London on 11 February 1919. She was opened to visitors and the press at Brunswick Quay, Greenland Dock, before being restored to her pre-war condition.
