Summary[edit]

Description
English: Corundum, variety trapiche ruby
Locality: Rai-Iz (Raiz), Tyumenskaya Oblast', Polar Urals, Western-Siberian Region, Russia
Size: 7.5 cm x 6.4 cm x 5.2 cm
This is a gorgeous matrix ruby specimen from the Siberian Urals featuring some intense purplish-red "pigeon’s-blood" groups and crystals frozen in schist matrix. The largest crystal, which measures 2.3 cm across, is really attractive and resembles a "Trapiche" habit, with high luster on the basal faces. The color is really intense when strongly lit, and it has what I would say is almost a "metallic" appearance on the outer faces of the better crystals. These are rare, and classic for European/Russian rubies.
