Description
Transcribed from front of photograph: "Seattle Railroad Stations. Columbia and Puget Sound. Railroad depot and machine shop. Built 1876?, demolished by fire June 6, 1889? Photo by Asahel Curtis." Transcribed from back of photograph: “Another picture showing the original South School (Main Street) some years after its erection in 1873. The center building on the trestle is Seattle's first depot, on the Railroad originally constructed to bring coal from Renton and Newcastle. This is the present site of the “Union Depot” on King street. The lumber shed of the Retize sawmill shows to the left. The tracks ran along what is now King street. The Grant Street bridge later followed this route to the south.”
