Description
English: Mainz Cathedral from the southwest. Willigis, designed his cathedral with the main chancel on the west, presumably modeled after the great basilicas in Rome, which were constructed this way.
Deutsch: Westchor des Mainzer Doms (vom Leichhof gesehen). Im Gegensatz zu den meisten Kirchenbauten jener Zeit, deren Hauptchor stets gen Osten gerichtet war, ließ Willigis seinen Dombau westwärts gerichtet erbauen, wie dies auch bei den großen Basiliken Roms der Fall war.
Français : L'aile ouest du cathédrale Saint-Martin de Mayence. Le chœur principal de la cathédrale, à plan trifolié, se termine par le collatéral de l'aile occidentale : trois absidioles, autour d'une voûte en berceau. 1853 ; Photographie.
