| Description | Cable tray through-penetration in a wall, which is required to have a fire-resistance rating. By law, there should be, but here, the is no firestop, where the installed configuration is bounded by an appropriate certification listing. An example of what should be there would be a firestop mortar. The rating of this wall was ZERO at the time this picture was taken, resulting in a code violation. This is a pulp and paper mill in Canada. The importance given to housekeeping and cleanliness is visible in this picture. Typically, plants dealing with poisons are preferred to be in small towns known as "one-horse" towns in Canada, where the plant is the major employer, which makes the plant exempt, in practice, from enforcement of the building code and fire code. |
