Summary[edit]

The Neapolitans call "Cavalli di Bronzo" (bronze horses) these two equestrian statues facing each other by the gate of the Royal Palace in Naples. They were donated by the Czar Nicolai I to the King of Naples Ferdinand II. Two identical pairs of "horse-tamer" groups, also cast in Russia by the same author, Peter Clodt von Jürgensburg, can be found on the limits of Anichkov bridge on the river Fontanka in Sankt Petersburg in Russia and in the Heinrich-von-Kleist Park in Berlin, repectively, the latter a gift by Czar Nicolai I to the Prussian king, Frederick William IV of Prussia. Pictures taken by Luigi Versaggi.
