Description
English: Cathecism in the now-extinct language of Timucua, spoken in Florida. One of two published in 1627 written by Francisco Pareja. This is notable for being one of the first such publications to be almost completely written in Timucua, with only short Spanish passages providing a summary, compared to previous such texts which were translated in parallel. It is also notable for containing an abundance of words with accent marking, giving an insight into the stress patterns of the language.

Digitized by Google Books.

The front cover reads:

Cathecism in the Timucua and Spanish languages, in which one may instruct and cathecize infidel adults who are to be Christians, and which will be no less useful for those who are Christians.

Written by the P. F. Francisco Pareja, devotee of the Order of Our Seraphic Father Saint Francis, and Father of the Province of Santa Elena de la Florida, natural of Auñon diocese of the Archdiocese of Toledo.
