Summary[edit]

Description
English: Title: Caroline Islands

Caption: Natives near Agana, Guam (circa 1900)
Catalog #: USN 901828

Note: Following an tsunami that devastated Lamotrek and Satawal (Yap) in 1849, refugees were settled on Guam, primarily in the Tamuning area. A U.S. Naval governor disliked what he considered the uncivilized, unclothed state of the Carolinian population and transferred them to Saipan in the early 1900s. This "near Agana" description may refer to Tamuning.
