  • Significance: The Capitol Hill Historic District was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. With more than 8,000 primary buildings within is boundaries, it is one of the largest and most visually coherent historic districts in the nation. Most of its buildings are row houses from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The architectural styles of its buildings include example for the federal period forward with especially heavy representation of the late Victorian era.
