For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. ADN-ZB Settnik 14.8.84 Berlin: "Schönhauser" - Porträt einer Straße Geprägt wird die Schönhauser Allee durch die als Hochbahn verkehrende U-Bahn. Die Entwürfe für diese Anlage einschließlich der beiden Bahnhöfe Dimitroffstraße un Schönhauser Allee, schufen Alfred Grenander und Johannes Bousset. Am 25.7.1913 wurde die Linie Alex-Nordring eröffnet. Erst 1930 wurde sie bis Pankow verlängert. Von den Berlinern wird die Anlage scherzhaft aber liebevoll als "Magistratsschirm" bezeichnet. Zahlreiche Geschäfte beiderseits der Straße laden zum Bummeln und Kaufen ein und geben ihr ein besonderes Flair. Sie ist jedoch nicht nur eine der bekanntesten Straßen, sondern auch eine der ältesten. Ihre Geschichte reicht bis ins Mittelalter zurück. Für den zu den außerhalb der Stadt liegenden Dörfern Pankow und Niederschönhausen führenden Weg gab es verschiedene Bezeichnungen. 1822-28 wurde er zur gepflasterten Chaussee ausgebaut. 1841 erhielt sie ihren heutigen Namen, wurde jedoch erst 1920 eingemeindet. |
