Summary[edit]
DescriptionBrackagh Moss - geograph.org.uk - 1327948.jpg |
English: Brackagh Moss Brackagh Moss is an extensive and low-lying direlict peatland, nestling in a small tributary valley, adjoining the Cusher and Bann rivers 3 km south of Portadown. Originally a more extensive raised bog, 200 years of recorded human exploitation has substantially reduced the area of peatland. As a result, most of the acid raised bog peat has been removed, exposing the neutral, base rich fen peats underneath. It was the presence of these peats and the unusual 'puddling' extraction techniques employed to extract them that produced the intricate mosaic of pools, banks and ramparts present today. |
