Zij protesteren hiermee tegen de plannen van staatssecretaris Van Hulten om de zgn. Evenredige Vrachtverdeling te laten verdwijnen. De Evenredige Vrachtverdeling werkt via de Schippersbeurzen waarbij iedere schipper bij toerbeurt een daar aangemelde vracht krijgt toegewezen. SHOTS: diverse vrachtschepen blokkeren bij Velsen doorgang op Noordzeekanaal; schippers op de boten en spandoeken als 'Van Hulte blijf af van onze E.V.' en 'Van Hulten moet vertrekken voor dat wij verrekken'; luchtshot Koningshaven Rotterdam met vrachtschepen die doorgang blokkeren; zeeschepen buitengaats; luchtshot blokkade Nieuwe Waterweg bij Maassluis; schippers op dek van vrachtschip. ARCHIEFMATERIAAL: schippersbeurs met schippers en verdeling vracht.
English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.; Shipping in the Netherlands has come to a halt after bargees are protesting by blocking the most important waterways with their ships. With this action they protest against the plans of State Secretary Van Hulten to end the so-called Evenredige Vrachtverdeling (Proportional Freight Distribution). The Evenredige Vrachtverdeling is operated via the Schippersbeurzen (Schippers-exchanges) in which every bargee gets assigned a registered cargo in turn. SHOTS: several freighters block the passage to the North Sea Canal near Velsen; bargees on the ships with banners reading 'Van Hulte blijf af van onze E.V.' (Van Hulte keep your hands off our P.F.D.) and 'Van Hulten moet vertrekken voor dat wij verrekken' (Van Hulten has to leave before we are damned); aerial shot of the Koningshaven Rotterdam with freighters blocking the passage; offshore vessels; aerial shot of the blocking of the Nieuwe Waterweg near Maassluis; bargees on deck of a freighter.
