Summary[edit]
DescriptionBidweg Sterre der Zee (montage).gif |
English: Montage showing the changing route of the so-called Sterre der Zee Bidweg (processional prayer route of the Star of the Sea) in the centre of Maastricht, Netherlands. The bidweg is a 500 year old prayer route used individually, in small groups or in large processions. Our Lady Star of the Sea is a 15th-century statue that has a long tradition of being venerated. It has moved from its original place in the Old Minorite Church to the Second Minorite Church, then to Saint Nicolas Church (demolished in 1837) and since then in the Basilica of Our Lady.
The map used for this montage is by the French military engineer Larcher d'Aubencourt and shows Maastricht in detail as it was around 1750. The prayer routes were added by Kleon3. |
