Summary[edit]

Description
English: Atranus pubescens (Dejean). This species is found over eastern North America and the only other species in the genus, Atranus ruficollis, occurs in southern Europe and the Middle East. The only other carabid genus with a similar vicariant distribution is Olisthopus although one European species, Olisthopus sturmii, extends to the Far East. Most amphiatlantic vicariant carabid groups, such as Pseudanophthalmus-Duvaliopsis, are at least generically distinct.
