Description
Reproduction of the allegory on the Pacification of Ghent, 1576 The original was made around 1624–1626 and appeared in Adriaen Valerius' Nederlandtsche gedenck-clanck (1626). In this 1942 edition the allegory appears on page 95. In the artwork, the Dutch lion defends the entrance gate to the Dutch garden where personifications of the seventeen Dutch provinces sit, while being threatened by Spanish soldiers.
