| Description |
English: Alder trees and small oxbow "lake", Longwater Lawn, New Forest Between the photographer position and the clump of alders is a silted-up former meander of the Beaulieu River. The young river takes a twisty course across this very shallow heathland valley, but it is clear from aerial photographs that it used to take a much more meandering route. I don't know whether the straightening is natural or artificial - in past times there were various 'improvements' to the New Forest heathland watercourses which, in several cases, are currently being reversed in the interests of conservation. |
