Summary[edit]

Description These broken markers are between two houses on Norton Place, a residential street in the outskirts of Clinton (Hinds County), Mississippi. The two readable inscriptions are for Charles M. Norton (14 February 1788 - 19 July 1824) and John H. Norton (7 May 1786 - 24 December 1858). Online research shows that Charles M. Norton was Charles Mynn Norton, an early President of Jefferson College in Adams County, Mississippi. Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he moved to Mississippi, where he married Mary Pointer Terrell. He is said to have died in Adams County. Why this marker is in Hinds County I don't know.
