English: Researchers from The Australian National University (ANU) will evaluate Australia's first drug testing facility, which launched in Canberra today, 23 September 2022.
The site is the first bricks and mortar drug testing facility of its kind in Australia. The ANU researchers say the new facility builds on the results of two festival-based pilot projects and strong community support. The service will be provided by the ACT Government with support from local health services and advocacy groups. The aim of the service is to improve the quality of information available to people who use drugs and reduce harms for the user. The new facility will also offer referrals to other health and social services. Associate Professor Anna Olsen, from the ANU Medical School, will lead the evaluation of the new drug testing centre. |
