Summary[edit]

Description
English: Axon development in the colliculus superior. Axons from 5 retinal locations are shown over 120 hours of simulated development. The first 60 hours of growth are mediated by molecular guidance cues only, allowing axons to extend to near their retinotopically correct locations. During the second 60 hours of development, activity-dependent mechanisms contribute to axon growth. Axons quickly refine after the onset of activity-dependent mechanisms.
