Summary[edit]
Description86.
English: Catalytic oxidation of ammonia
A fine powder of chromium(III) oxide heated to red-hot, is added (immediately after being heated) to a flask filled with a mixture of gaseous ammonia and air. When inserted, around the chromium(III) oxide particles (a catalyst), oxidation takes place. This oxidation can be described by the chemical equations (other chemical equations could also be written, giving NO and/or NO2): 4NH3(g) + 3O2(g) = 2N2(g) + 6H2O(g) 2NH3(g) + 2O2(g) = N2O(g) + 3H2O(g) Performed by the Prof. PhD Miha Bukleski. The planning of the experiment also included the retired Prof. PhD Vladimir Petruševski and the students Mihail Trajkov and Darko Stojčev, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
