English: Women Shipyard Machinists making debut in Newark N.J. |

Description |
English: The woman in oil-soaked blue overalls has made her appearance in the Newark N.J. shipyards. She has not yet joined the riveters - probably she never will - but she has entered the machine shop. The Submarine Boat Corporation started the experiment with only seven pioneers, but, according to an announcement made yesterday, by Dr. Henry Moskowitz, industrial consultant of the firm, the number will be steadily increased as the men now presiding over the machines are called in the draft. This is the first time women have been used in the construction work of the shipyards, thought they have been used in the administrative and clerical positions for some time. Photo shows: - at the rivet sharp cutting machine. |
